We were approached by a British PLC called Telecom Plus. Telecom Plus (trading as Utility Warehouse) offer heavily discounted gas, electric, telephone and broadband prices. They do not advertise so you may not have heard of this company.
They have been voted Best Supplier by Which magazine for the last three years and were the top performing share on the London stock exchange 2009.
There is no minimum contract period, so you can change from your existing suppliers with complete peace of mind. You can make use of this for your tenants or even for your personal use.
The company are governed by an Ofgem license and are a PLC. They are extremely good at shrinking bills. They do it in three ways.
1. They guarantee to be cheaper than BT, British Gas and consistently low when compared to the 'big six'.
2 They offer a Mastercard backed 'cashback' card. This is VERY clever. Every time you use the card at partner companies such as Sainsbury, Boots etc, you get 5% off your utility bills. So if for example you spend £600 per month on food, £400 on petrol - you would get £50 credit on your bills. So if your electric bill was for example £70 per month, this would reduce to just £20.00. Most people we know put nearly everything they spend through this card.(You still get the other offers Sainsbury, Boots and the other stores offer such as Nectar points and other discounts).
3. For each person you recommend the service to and that change to Utility Warehouse, you will receive a further discount on your bill of up to 2% (depending how many services they take). So get 10 people to change and you would get another 20% off your bill. Many people have actually ended up having a ZERO utility bill!!
Before posting this, we have changed our own utility bills over to this company. The changeover was a smooth as silk. We didn't even notice the telephone switch. The Helpline is superb. Which magazine gave them 5 stars for this. They are UK based and answer 94% of the calls within 15 seconds. A welcome change from Eon and TalkTalk whom we used before.
We are landlords and did this primarily for our tenants. However we have changed over ourselves and so have many of our friends. All report an excellent service and the saving for an average household is about £800 per annum.
